The Souvenir d'Ete dahlia is a bulbous perennial that develops a bushy habit and yellow-orange flowers. The plant first produces a large mass of green, dentate, feathery leaves. Late in summer, golden flower balls appear on that charming background. Balls consisting of evenly positioned, inward rolling petals appear on the stems that reach 60 to 90 centimetres in height. The Souvenir d'Ete dahlia can be grown for cut flower and it harmonizes well with perennials and other dahlia varieties in the garden. Round orange flowers can become a head turner on borders and flower beds where they look particularly impressive on dark green background. Presented variety ensures excellent visual effects both in the garden and in bouquets.
Dahlias require plenty of sunlight and a loosened, fertile, and permeable soil. The soil must be kept moist during the entire vegetation period. Dahlia belong to "greedy" plants - we recommend feeding them with special flowering plant fertilizers with high potassium content. The magnificent dahlias, including this one, are not resistant to frost. Their rootstock must be excavated after the first frost the latest. Act gently, starting with loosening the soil with a garden fork, about 20 to 40 centimetres from the main stem. After trimming the shoots and removing leaf rests, transfer the rootstocks to wooden boxes and place them root up, if possible. Store them in a cool, dry place until the next planting.
