The Star's Favourite dahlia develops light pink flowers with creamy-white centre. It is a stunning representative of the cactus dahlia. Its petals, rolled into thin "needles" bent inward what gives the flowers a noble stylish appearance. Elegant dahlia tufts that grow about one metre tall are relatively easy to grow. These plants can become a marvellous, undemanding decoration of every garden as long as they are treated properly. Dahlias with needle-like petals are perfect for creating of unique bouquets. They harmonize with other pastel-coloured dahlias and contrast nicely with the varieties whose petals take on a darker colour. A bouquet made of dahlia blossoms grown in your own garden is a good way to lift your spirits when the summer is slowly departing.
The Star's Favourite dahlia grows best when it has unrestricted access to sunlight and warmth. Tuberous dahlia roots should be planted in the garden from mid May to June. The most beautiful plants develop in a permeable, fertile soil that has a neutral reaction. Enriching the soil with compost or some other organic fertilizer before planting is considered a good practice. Place the seedlings (rootstock) in shallow holes and cover them with a thin layer of soil, about a couple of inches thick. Regular watering and fertilizing allows you to grow healthy plants with a long flowering period.
Presented plant does not winter in the ground. Its rootstock must be excavated in autumn after the first frost. Rootstock with trimmed stems are stored in dry and cool room and planted again in spring in the garden or in planters.
