The 'Avatar F1' cucumber is an early variety intended for open field cultivation. This productive variety stands out with excellent health. It is highly resistant to downy mildew and therefore can be grown with only minimal application of plant protection agents. The plants of this cultivar develop predominantly female flowers from which elongated, cylindrical fruit with a 3:1 length-to-diameter ratio. The skin takes on a nice light green colour with a darker ending. The marble pattern is barely visible. The thick visible spines appear in limited number. The grooves on the surface are shallow. Cucumbers of the 'Avatar F1' variety do not tend to yellow, are appetizing and shapely. These features make it a great material for preserves - pickling in vinegar and brine in particular. The cucumbers do not lose their nice colouring and remain crunchy and firm after processing.
Seeds of the presented variety should be sown in the second half of May, after the risk of frost is gone. Growing this vegetable from seedlings that are transferred to the permanent site after several weeks is the recommended growing method. The seeds should not be sown too deep, the sowing depth should not exceed 2 cm. The cucumber seedlings should be planted in rows that are 100 to 120 cm apart. The distances between plants in rows should be between 10 to 20 cm.
Cucumbers belongs to vegetables that require warm, bright and quickly warming sites. The soil that brings best results should be fertile, humous, rich in nutrients and have a high water capacity. The soil should not tend to crust. Cucumbers require watering and fertilization in order to develop as expected. Frequent weeding of the cultures is also recommended. The cultivation in the heavy and wet or sandy soil does not bring good results.
