The "Morgenrote" bergenia (Bergenia cordifolia) is a long-lived, shade-loving, compact perennial plant that would thrive on a waterlogged site. In the second half of spring the plant offered here in our garden store forms large, rich clusters of bell-shaped flowers that take on a vivid, pink colour with a darker, red calyx. The inflorescences sit atop naked, thick, scarlet stalks. The whole plant grows only 30 to 40 cm tall. The flowering stalks are leaf-less, yet the "Morgenrote" bergenia develops abundant basal foliage. Stiff, fleshy, glossy green leaves take on the characteristic, cordate shape with distinctly paler venation.

This easy to grow, vigorous and sturdy plant may become a permanent decoration of a shady spot, perennial border, path edging or a pond. Rhizomes of the "Morgenrote" bergenia should be planted in spring in humous, moist soil. Waterlogged sites do not bother this plant. The variety presented here would look particularly stunning with the "Baby Doll" bergenia and its lighter inflorescences. You may also grow it on the background of tall white, creamy-white, pink or red-flowered astilbes or mix it with lower hosta cultivars.

One package contains 1 large, healthy first choice rhizome. Plant growing instructions were included in the package information.
