Lemon Beebalm is a perennial plant that flowers in the first year of cultivation. With a shrubby form, it grows 80 to 100 centimetres in height and produces lovely pink flowers, which, growing in large clusters, make considerable inflorescences. Lemon Beebalm is highly valued as an ornamental plant; it has a gorgeous fragrance that resembles bergamot. What is more, this variety is often used in the kitchen. The flowers and leaves are used for garnishing dishes as well as for spicing wines and liqueurs. Its dried leaves are commonly used for tea brewing.
Growing: sow the seeds in planter boxes or in covered pallet planters in March. Make sure to cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. The seeds germinate in around two weeks at 20-22°C. Plant out into a permanent position 50x50cm spacings in May. This variety is little demanding as far as the soil and weather conditions are concerned; it thrives in moist medium fertile soils in sunny as well as in semi-shaded positions.
