Ornamental onion Round 'n Purple is a variety that develops impressively large, extremely dense, silver-purple inflorescences. Hundreds of small stars gathered in magnificent balls sit atop strong, straight stems and constitute an incredible decoration of garden borders. These terrific inflorescences appear in late spring and early summer (April-June). Ornamental onions perfectly fill the gap between the end of blooming periods of the bulbous plants and the beginning of the opening of flower buds by the perennials. The Round 'n Purple ornamental onion is a tall plant that grows 80 to 100 cm. The circular shape of the lilac-purple flower heads harmonize well with lilies, erect foxtail lilies and perennials with flowers in contrasting colours. We recommend to plant these onions at a site that will allow you to hide onion leaves that start to wilt and die after the blooming period starts. Their aroma will effectively repel rats and voles. The magnificent ornamental onion flowers may also be used as cut flowers. They are long lasting, look great put singly in vases or in multi-flower compositions. They can also be successfully dried and used during the winter in dried flower arrangements.

Onion bulbs should be planted on the flower beds in autumn. This plant species does not have any special requirements. It will grow virtually everywhere, provided that the site is not to humid. The ornamental onion therefore grows best in permeable, properly drained soil. Onions love sunlight and are fairly resistant to drought. They are perfect for sandy and sandy-loam soils. You do not have to excavate the onion bulbs before the winters, as these plants are completely winter hardy. Dig out the bulbs every two to three years or after you have notices less abundant blooming in order to separate the increase bulbs.
