"Ostara" ornamental onion came to life as a hybrid of Allium karataviense and Allium atropurpureum. This selection of plant material allowed the breeders accentuate the stunning features of both plants and combine it in one magnificent plant. The huge flowers that take on an intriguing crimson-pink colour are complemented by wonderful, shining leaves of the Turkestan onion. In contrary to other varieties, leaves of the presented onion do not wilt during the flowering period. Their unchanged appearance highly improves the ornamental value of the plants. The wonderful inflorescences sit atop stiff 40 to 60 cm tall stems. The unusual colour of the flowers is a great asset of the presented variety. Dark red colour looks stunning on the background of other plants. The variety that we offer here is a great solution for flower beds, rock gardens, larger pots, and planters. A stylish, elegant, spherical cluster of ornamental onion flowers proves to be a great fit for various floral arrangements. The high resistance of the flowers encourages you to use them in bouquets. A dried cluster of "Ostara" ornamental onion flowers will perfectly complement dry plant compositions.

Ornamental onions should be planted between September and November. Choose a sunny site with a permeable soil whose reaction is close to neutral. Compact soil requires a drainage layer. Plant the bulbs 10 to 25 centimetres apart, at the depth equal triple height of the bulb. Ornamental onions can be fed with compost and multicomponent fertilizers. Make sure to water the plants right after planting, during their intensive growth, and during longer drought periods. Protect the bulbs from waterlogging. Ornamental onions belong to hardy plants that can winter in soil.
