Parrot tulips are considered one of the most unique cultivar groups of the Tulipa genus. They are characterized by large size and extremely ornamental flowers with frizzled petals and a nice, sweet fragrance. The 'Texas Gold' parrot tulip belongs to the most popular varieties of this group. In May, it develops cone shaped flowers that consist of irregularly shaped, canary yellow, green-striped petals. They sit atop straight stems that are up to 50 centimetres tall. This exceptionally decorative plant attracts attention and can be used as the focal point of a perennial spring border. We recommend to combine it with other beautiful parrot tulips, such as the colourful 'Exotic Parrot'.
Plant the bulbs in autumn into the fertile, moderately moist, yet permeable soil on a sunny and warm site. The optimal planting depth for parrot tulip bulbs is 12 to 15 centimetres, depending on the compactness of the soil. Allow for 12-centimetre spacings between individual plants. The 'Texas Gold' variety looks best in formal or natural arrangements, particularly when planted among contrastingly coloured tulips.
One package contains 50 bulbs sized 11-12 centimetres in circumference. The bulbs offered here in our store were bred in Holland.
