The beautiful zinnia coming from South America is a popular and coveted annual flowering plant. Wonderful, vivid colours and original shape of the inflorescences contribute to many advantages of these blooms. You may find different varieties of this species in the garden. We encourage you to buy an unusual zinnia variety - a colourful selection of the scabiosa flowered zinnia.

The scabiosa flowered zinnia differs from the popular garden zinnia (Zinnia elegans) with a elegant flower form resembling this of scabiosa (pincushion flower). On the top of a stiff, erect stem sits an inflorescence consisting of two types of blooms - disc and ray flowers. Lower layer of the tongue-shaped ray flowers creates a "plate" on which tubular disc flowers form a semi-circular cushion. The whole inflorescence, or pseudanthium looks like a single-colour hat. The colour palette of this selection includes white, yellow, orange, pale pink, pink, coral, raspberry red and different, saturated and vivid shades of the above mentioned colours. The flower heads grow quite large - up to 8 cm in diameter. Leaves are cross-positioned on the stem and juicy green. The plant that grows ca. 60 cm tall has an erect, straight and unbranched habit. It is covered by stiff hairs.

Scabiosa flowered zinnia can be used like other, more popular varieties. We can usually find it on borders, flower beds, in groupings of both seasonal and perennial flowers. People visiting your garden will definitely love a border edging formed of this interesting variety. Colourful spots of scabiosa flowered zinnia blooms planted on a lawn will advance to the main ornamental point of our allotment. They will underscore the best characteristics of a rural style garden with their ellegant appearance. Scabiosa flowered zinnia also works great as cut flower. It retains its looks in a vase for up to two weeks. It can form a base for naturalistic bouquets and an addition to them.

Zinnia does not belong to the most popular flowers. We do hope that the rustical and naturalistic garden style hype will help them win their previous standing. Scabiosa flowered zinnias are cultivated from seedlings produced on a warm hotbed in March - April, or in the latter month on a seed bed. Young plants are transplanted to the permanent site in the second half of May. Zinnia needs a sunny, wind sheltered site. The soil ought to be rich in nutrients and moist. Removing of withered blooms will improve and extend the blooming. We can enjoy zinnia flowers from June until September.

One package of scabiosa flowered zinnia mixed seeds contains 0.5 g of seed material and has a basic growing guide and the sow-by date printed on it.

Exclusion of the middlemen from the whole process not only makes it possible for us to avoid sending out-of-date seeds that might have been lying too long on a warehouse shelf, but also ensures the most attractive price for top quality products.

The quality control process

All our seeds must pass a four-stage quality control process.

Stage one begins with a careful selection of the suppliers. Than we proceed with controlling their crops, foreign producers are not excluded from the quality control process. Plants are checked at every stage of their development: when they start to grow, during blooming and when they start bearing fruit (seeds). At this stage the most important thing is to ensure proper spacing of the plants. Thanks to that obtaining the desired morphological characteristics of each particular species or variety, such as colour, height and shape, can be ensured.

Stage two consists of a detailed verification tests in laboratory conditions. With the use of the highest quality equipment by the highly qualified staff, our suppliers perform more than 30 000 quality checks annually. The seeds that do not meet our requirements are subject to technological refining processes, including drying, cleaning, upgrading and testing again.

Stage three starts with sowing seeds in selected control plots. That way we obtain valuable, exact information concerning their germination that must be maintained at an appropriate level. Simultaneously, the varietal identity of each species is checked at this stage.

Stage four takes place in our warehouses and consists of eliminating seeds that have been stored for too long on our shelves and replacing them with new batches. Each package is stamped with a unique batch number and also with the sow-by-date.

All four stages combined allow us to state with confidence that the seeds we deliver comply with the highest standards and have completed all required control stages with flying colours.

We provide help by sharing the accurate and up-to-date sowing and growing information, however, we cannot bear any responsibility for the plants that were not cultivated in conditions appropriate for given species.
