The Catharina tulip belongs to the tallest varieties of that bulbous plant. Its classic white cups are put on display on up to 75 centimetres long stems. The marvellous white colour of the flowers and the size of the plants make those majestic plants impossible to miss. Catharina tulips always make an impression. They are suited for decorating flower beds and for cut flower. The wonderful elliptic flowers adorned with creamy-white base are both stylish and elegant. These flower cups are large and sit atop strong stems that tower over the greyish green leaves. The Catharina tulip is a great variety for taller compositions. Its substantial height allows you to plant them not only at the front, but in central parts of flower beds and other arrangements too. The marble white with a touch of creamy-white blush refreshes and breaks the garden routine.

This variety belongs to the late single tulip group that produce flowers about mid-May. In order to enjoy large tulip flowers, plant tulip bulbs in autumn. Tulips require a permeable, light, and fertile soil. The place should be sunny and moderately moist. Plant the bulbs in groups, about 10 to 15 centimetres deep and apart. Tulips usually react well to organic and mineral fertilization. You can feed them with complex fertilizers until they start to produce buds. Prune the flowers to make sure that they bloom equally well in the next season. Remove all wilted and withered flowers. This measure increases the number of produced bulbils and therefore allows you to grow more plants the next year. You do not have to dig out tulip bulbs every year, even though it is sometimes recommended. Digging up the bulbs ensures abundant flowering and lowers the risk of disease. Bulbs should be excavated in summer after the last leaves have wilted. The cleaned and slightly dried bulbs should be stored in an airy and cool room. Plant them again in autumn.
