Dutch iris is a group of iris cultivars that owes its popularity to uniquely shaped flowers, weather resistance, and low requirements. The Alaska variety is highly valued for the versatility of its white flowers and height of sixty centimetres (twenty-four inches). Subtle, sophisticated irises can be admired between May and June, when first spring flowers begin to disappear. Pure white blooms adorned with delicate yellow lines constitute an elegant addition to many garden and pot arrangements. Dutch irises look phenomenal in large single-species plantings that can combine several varieties. Alaska Dutch iris harmonizes with other species and you will have no problem including it in your garden. Flowers of the Alaska iris enchant with their unique shape, what makes them a good candiate for cut flower. Their durability allows you to prepare magnifcent bouquets and other floral arrangements.
Plant durable and easy-to-grow irises at warm and sunny sites. Iris in general likes humous, fertile, and well-drained soil. Bear in mind that it does not tolerate full shade and excess moisture in the soil. Iris growing site requires a decent cover before the winter. We recommend using straw, conifer twigs, or dry bark for this purpose.
