The "Tamburo" dahlia variety produces deeply crimson, almost mahogany cactus-type flowers. Its captivating beauty and proud stature predestine it for exposition on flower beds, lawns and in large planters. The fans of strong, dark accents should not remain indifferent to their charm. Its long petals that twist inward are gathered in intricate verticils that shrink as they near to the centre of the flowerhead. These spiky spheres shine with a velvety surface are perfectly suited for cutting-edge plantings with ornamental grasses. In order to achieve a more traditional look combine them with zinnias or the colourful coleus varieties that will bring more life into the arrangement. This variety grows 70 to 90 centimetres tall and starts to flower at the end of June. The stems are covered with flowers over the course of several weeks thanks to the gradually developing buds. The "Tamburo" dahlia is a unique variety that cannot be forgotten.

Growing dahlias is easy. Excavating rootstock before the winter is the only more cumbersome part. Dahlia should be planted on sunny or only partially shaded situations. The appropriate exposition to sunlight is crucial for the healthy development and bright, saturated colour of the flowers. Due to the relatively substantial height and the frailty of the stems, we do not recommend growing dahlia on windy spots. Staking of the flower-carrying stems might be necessary. Dahlia requires neutral or slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients, permeable, and constantly moist. Plant dahlias every 50 to 60 centimetres. Put the tuberous roots about 5 to 10 centimetres deep from April to June.  Dahlia requires watering during extended periods of drought. Its wilted flowers should be removed.  Dahlia reacts well to fertilization with manure, compost, and mineral fertilizers.

Dahlia roots stocks cannot winter in the ground and must be dug out in autumn. Trim the stem first and then gently excavate the rootstock. Store the rootstocks in ventilated open boxes in a dry place where the temperature is stabilized between 2 and 4?C. Cover the rootstock with sand or peat for even safer storage. If you detect loss of firmness or wrinkled surface on the rootstocks, you can moisten them slightly.
