The Crocus angustifolius, commonly known as the cloth-of-gold crocus originates from southern Ukraine and Armenia. It is an old, botanical species that enjoys stable standing of a valuable bulbous perennial. The perianths of these tiny exceptional beauties are visibly elongated. The petals are narrower than the petals of the hybrids, what does not diminish their presence. The cloth-of-gold crocus excretes a subtle, pleasant aroma.
The charming graceful flowers consist of two colours. Each of the bulbs shoots a slender stalk atop which flowers develop whose petals take on different colours on both sides. The outer side is unusually brown-scarlet, while the inside is clean saturated yellow, forming a spectacular colour play. Crocus perianths open wide on sunny days, displaying the contrastingly coloured stamens and the pistil. The blooms are surrounded by small, narrow leaves with a lighter stripe running through the middle.
Expose the small, about 15 cm tall crocuses in rock gardens, at the foreground of the flower beds or in rows alongside paths and pavements. They will form a natural ornament of the lawn when they bloom in March. They also provide great material for plantings in pots on a sunlit balcony and unique arrangements in planters, bowls and baskets.
Plant the tiny bulbs from September to November. They require a moderately moist, permeable soil and a sunny or partially shady situation. These easy to grow flowering plants are highly ornamental.
One package contains 100 pieces of the Crocus angustifolius bulbs. The basic plant information and growing tips can be found on the product label.
