The Cotton Palm, also known as the Desert Fan Palm, is an arborescent plant with grayish-green fan-shaped leaves growing out of the long, heavily serrated stems. It is the twisted fibers hanging from the side of the plant that bring a very high ornamental value to this variety. In temperate climate conditions, The Cotton Palm is cultivated exclusively in containers, which, once the weather becomes warmer in the summer, can be moved to a terrace or a balcony.
Growing: prior to sowing, soak the seeds in lukewarm water for two days, then sow them in pots 2 centimetres deep. To achieve regular germination, cultivate the plants in even and moist soil, preferably at around 25°C. The seeds germinate in several weeks. Water and fertilise the plants on a regular basis, while providing a good amount of light. This variety grows best in tall pots and requires to be transplanted once in every 2 to 3 years.
