Crocuses belong to the hallmark spring flowers together with tulips and hyacinths. These well known plants captivate with a plethora of forms. We hereby present the Crocus tommasinianus. The Roseus variety of that species is a true oddball among the crocuses. It looks great both in single species plantings and in combination with other varieties.
Its graceful are full of charm thanks to the two colours its flowers consist of. A pink-lilac beauty develops atop a smooth tubular perianth that shoots from a bulb. The outer petals have an intriguing metallic, silvery shine that creates a spectacular play of colours. The crocus heads widely spread their petals on sunny days, displaying the contrasting stamens and the pistil. The blooms are surrounded by small, narrow leaves with a lighter stripe running through the middle.
The small, 8 to 10 cm crocuses should be exposed in rock gardens at the foreground of borders or in rows that run along the pavement. They will form a natural ornament of the lawn when they bloom in March. They also provide great material for plantings in pots on a sunlit balcony and unique arrangements in planters, bowls and baskets.
Plant the tiny bulbs from September to November. They require a moderately moist, permeable soil and a sunny or partially shady situation. These easy to grow flowering plants are highly ornamental.
One package contains 100 pieces of the Roseus crocus bulbs, sized 5 to 6 cm. The basic plant information and growing tips can be found on the product label.
