Cultivating dahlias is not difficult if you stick to a few simple rules. The site should be sunny and sheltered from the wind. It guarantees abundant and long flowering. Dahlias do not have any special requirements. They need moderately fertile, permeable, well-cultivated soil. Plants should be regularly watered, especially during periods of drought, and properly fertilized with organic and mineral preparations.

Plant dahlia in the garden after spring frosts have subsided. Planting from the end of April to the end of May is recommended. You can also force dahlia a bit, by planting rootstock in pots in March. Such plants remain at home for several weeks, hardened, and planted on a flower bed or in containers. Dahlia's bulbous roots cannot winter in the ground. Dig them out after the first frost in autumn that kills the leaves. Store rootstock, cleaned of soil and remaining green parts, in a cool and dry room.
