The Karma Choc dahlia is a truly magnificent plant. Its velvety petals are evenly covered with a deep, dark brown colour with a touch of cherry red. This is one of the darkest dahlia varieties that growers have been able to grow until this day. Not only the colour makes the Karma Choc variety truly exceptional. Like other Karma varieties it has been grown to produce sturdy cut flowers. The double flowers consisting of slightly bent petals are considered long lasting - they can survive for up to 12 days in vases. The 10 to 15 centimetres wide semi-speres sit atom strong dark stems. They are not heavy and therefore do not impair the appearance of the plants. The majestic, 60 to 90 centimetres tall tufts that are almost equally broad are resistant to rainfall - they maintain their erect habit.
A Karma dahlia is a perfect plant for borders and pots. It brings best visual results in groups of at least five plants. Its dark cherry red flowers harmonize well with plum purple blooms and plants that have silvery leaves. The Karma Choc dahlia is a valuable and highly regarded flower. Its striking colour and intricately shaped flowers that remain fresh after being cut are the main advantages of this magnificent plant.
Growing dahlias is easy. Excavating rootstock before the winter is the only more cumbersome part. Dahlia should be planted on sunny or only partially shaded situations. The appropriate exposition to sunlight is crucial for the healthy development and bright, saturated colour of the flowers. Due to the relatively substantial height and the frailty of the stems, we do not recommend growing dahlia on windy spots. Staking of the flower-carrying stems might be necessary. Dahlia requires neutral or slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients, permeable, and constantly moist. Plant dahlias every 50 to 60 centimetres. Put the tuberous roots about 5 to 10 centimetres deep from April to June. Dahlia requires watering during extended periods of drought. Its wilted flowers should be removed. Dahlia reacts well to fertilization with manure, compost, and mineral fertilizers.
Dahlia roots stocks cannot winter in the ground and must be dug out in autumn. Trim the stem first and then gently excavate the rootstock. Store the rootstocks in ventilated open boxes in a dry place where the temperature is stabilized between 2 and 4?C. Cover the rootstock with sand or peat for even safer storage. If you detect loss of firmness or wrinkled surface on the rootstocks, you can moisten them slightly.
A single package contains 10 pieces of Karma Choc dahlia rootstock of premium quality. Basic plant growing instructions can be found on the package.
