The Maxime ornamental dahlia captivates with its charm. Its rich elegant flowers constitute a worthy ornament of this majestic plant. The attractive combination of orange-red petal centres with a pale yellow edge make it a model summer and autumn flower. The inflorescences that measure 10 to 15 centimetres in diameter look great on the background of green leaves and stems that grow as tall as 120 centimetres during high season. The "Maxime" dahlia has been developed to showcase its flowers on beds, in flowery hedges or alongside the garden paths and fences. It also supplies valued sturdy cut flowers. Do not forget that cutting flowers off stimulates the plants to produce new buds. That's a win-win situation - a beautiful home decoration and abundantly blooming plants in the garden. The "Maxime" dahlia that we offer here in our garden store is worth growing in the garden as its main attraction.
Growing dahlias is easy. Excavating rootstock before the winter is the only more cumbersome part. Dahlia should be planted on sunny or only partially shaded situations. The appropriate exposition to sunlight is crucial for the healthy development and bright, saturated colour of the flowers. Due to the relatively substantial height and the frailty of the stems, we do not recommend growing dahlia on windy spots. Staking of the flower-carrying stems might be necessary. Dahlia requires neutral or slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients, permeable, and constantly moist. Plant dahlias every 50 to 60 centimetres. Put the tuberous roots about 5 to 10 centimetres deep from April to June. Dahlia requires watering during extended periods of drought. Its wilted flowers should be removed. Dahlia reacts well to fertilization with manure, compost, and mineral fertilizers.
Dahlia roots stocks cannot winter in the ground and must be dug out in autumn. Trim the stem first and then gently excavate the rootstock. Store the rootstocks in ventilated open boxes in a dry place where the temperature is stabilized between 2 and 4?C. Cover the rootstock with sand or peat for even safer storage. If you detect loss of firmness or wrinkled surface on the rootstocks, you can moisten them slightly.
A single package contains 10 pieces of premium quality rootstock of Maxime dahlia. Basic plant growing instructions can be found on the package.
