Dahlia 'Penhill Watermelon' is a variety with very large, fully double flowers in a warm salmon-pink shade. Its broad, slightly twisted, irregularly arranged petals give the huge flower heads a loose, ruffled look. As it is quite a tall plant that produces strong, densely leafy stems, it is best given a prominent position at the back of a border. It flowers for a long period and reliably throughout the second half of summer and into autumn.
The tuber is best planted from April to May.
The recommended planting depth is 5-7 cm.
Space plants 40-50 cm apart.
This variety reaches 90-120 cm.
Flowers from July to October.
This plant is not frost-hardy, so the tubers should be dug up before winter.
'Penhill Watermelon' works well in formal borders and group plantings, where its large flowers can be properly displayed. It is also suitable for cutting - individual flower heads make a striking feature in bouquets. In larger containers, it can serve as the central plant in a composition.
