Eryngium - Planum - Silvery blue accent, drought and frost hardy - Bare root - 1 pc

Eryngium planum has a distinctive cool silvery-blue colouring. Its stiff stems are topped with rounded flower heads that stand out against the dark green leaves with a subtle metallic sheen. This species copes well with occasional drying of the soil, so it is well suited to rock gardens and sites with drier ground. The flowers are readily visited by bees and butterflies, and the plant sits well in naturalistic garden arrangements.

Planting time

The best time for planting is in spring, from April to May, when the soil has already warmed sufficiently.

Planting depth

Place the bare root at a depth of 10-15 cm.

Spacing

The recommended distance between bare roots is 30-40 cm.

Height

This plant reaches a height of 40-70 cm.

Flowering period

Flowers from June to September.

Overwintering

Eryngium is fully frost hardy and overwinters in the ground.

Use

Eryngium planum performs well in perennial borders, naturalistic gardens and rock gardens. Thanks to its tolerance of occasional dry spells, it can also be planted in places with light, free-draining soil. The flower heads are suitable for cutting and can also be used in dried bouquets.
