Fringed iris Katy Mendez is a truly impressive plant. Its magnificent broad, umbrella-shaped flower displays intriguing, dark purple colour. Edges of the broad, almost round petals are paler, as if painted with watercolours. Contrasting golden-yellow speckles that spread from the inside of the flower beautifully illuminate the petals. Straight, erect Katy Mendez iris consists of grass-like leaves and stiff, erect stems wonderfully exposes flowers. That elegant shape and saturated flower colour are the main reasons for which every gardener should at least consider growing presented variety in his garden. Plants of the Katy Mendez variety grow ninety to ninety-five centimetres tall. It allows you to grow this fringed iris in the background of a flower bed or near a pond. The rhizomous iris will also make a great figure in larger pots, and transparent glass vases.

The beardless Katy Mendez iris thrives in sunny situations, even though partial shade does it no harm. The soil for this impressive variety needs to be fertile, rich in humus, properly fed, and have an acidic reaction. Stable soil humidity is crucial for the healthy growth and abundant flowering of the plant. This is one of the key requirements that you must meet when deciding upon growing a fringed iris. Plants can be virtually stand in water during the most intensive growth phase, but the site should be dry during the dormancy period (from end of July throughout winter).
