The Semiplena great camas (Camassia leichtlinii) is a still relatively unknown, yet magnificent bulbous plant. This perennial produces tuftss of narrow, bright green, erect leaves that surround slender, vertical clusters of semi-double star-shaped flowers. That form gives camas a truly noble and elegant look that is additionally emphasized by the creamy-white colour of the flowers with a delicate greenish shade. Great camas starts to flower in late May. Flower buds from the bottom up creating conical, grape-shaped clusters that bloom profusely for quite a long time. These beautiful, bright flowers are honey-bearing too and, therefore, frequently visited by pollinating insects. The eighty to one-hundred centimetres (thirty-two to forty inches) tall Semiplena camas perfectly fits onto taller flower beds, into rows running along walls and fences, and spots next garden architecture. Larger group of camas plants immediately creates a natural, wild look. Camas flowers quickly fade after cutting, so it is best to admire them in the garden.

Camas loves sunlight and blooms abundantly at open positions. It likes permeable, fertile, slightly acidic, and moderately moist soil. Plant its bulbs from the second half of August to October, eight to fifteen (three to six inches) deep, depending on the size of the onion. Carefully cover the site before the winter, as the plants may freeze. Presented species does not require much care - fertilizing in spring and watering in periods of drought is all this easy-to-grow plant needs. Semiplena camas can stay at the same site for two to three years. Dig out the onions in July, after the leaves have dried. Dry and clean the bulbs before storing them in a ventilated, dry room until next planting.
