Hosta, plantain lily "Captain's Adventure" is an intriguing variety that produces bowl-shaped, wavy leaves. Centres of the leaf petioles are yellow-green. That colour gradually changes to dark green towards the creamy-white edges. These plants grow rather quickly and form large, 40-50 cm tall tufts. They bloom at the beginning of summer, sprouting long stalks covered with lavender-blue flowers. "Captain's Adventure" hosta constitutes a splendid addition to all arrangements on shady borders and may be planted under trees and shrubs.

Plantain lilies should be planted directly in spring or autumn, preferably on a shady site. These plants like permeable, yet water retaining soils. They grow best on rather heavy, clay soils rich in nutrients and humus. Hosta prefers slightly acidic or neutral reaction of the soil. This species shows complete resistance to frosts.
