The Ivory Bells Persian lily (Fritillaria persica) is a truly unique plant that grows flowers at the turn of April and May. Soaring, whiteish-green clusters of hundreds of bell-shaped flowers constitute a stunning masterpiece. A strong, stiff stem of a Persian lily shoots lanceolate, slightly twisted, light green leaves up to one third or half of its height. The erect, non-branching form of the plant results in an intriguing, almost architectural form. The eighty to one-hundred centimetres tall Persian lilies should be planted at showcase areas of the garden. You can magnify the visual effect by planting them in small groups. The subdued, yet elegant colour of Persian lily flowers harmonizes perfectly with the bright colours of other bulbous perennials, such as red tulips. Persian lily can also be easily recognized by a specific, quite penetrating scent that pollinating insects seems to love, but rodents who often feed on flower bulbs and damage them, cannot stand. This property offers your garden plants additional protection from common pests. This sensational, graceful plant thrives on perennial beds, in arrangements alongside building walls, and at fences. It looks stunning in decorative planters and large wooden boxes.

Choose a sunny and warm place for Persian lilies. We recommend enriching soil with fermented compost or manure before planting to provide developing plants with nutrients. Presented plant prefers fertile, well-drained, even partially sandy soils. Avoid clay, compact, and waterlogging ground that may quickly cause rotting of the bulbs. End of summer and the beginning of autumn is the optimal planting time. Plant large Persian lily bulbs about fifteen to twenty centimetres deep. Persian lily does not like frequent transplanting and will thrive at one site for several years. We recommend feeding those imposing plants with fertilizers that contain micronutrients. As this species is fully frost-resistant, it does not need to be excavated before the winter.
