The Henryi lily is a botanical variety that comes straight from China. It was brought to Europe in the 19. century by the botanist named Augustine Henry, whose name it bears until this day. As befits a Far East beauty, it stuns with oriental features of its turban-shaped, bright orange flowers. Brownish bulges and nodules on the surface of the petals give this variety an aggressive, yet exceptionally intriguing look. Its subtle scent and sky-scraping anthers complement the lavish and extravagant image of this plant. A Henryi lily that has taken good root in a garden can produce up to thirty marvellous flowers. Cross-breeding this lily with other lilies brought us many fascinating varieties that enrich our gardens with dozens of colours and shapes. Lily flowers are exceptionally sturdy while the plant itself enjoys high resistance to fungal and viral diseases. The Henryi lily is highly valued by bees and butterflies. The 120 to 150 centimetre tall plants might require staking at the peak of the flowering period, in July and August.

Like a true exotic plant, the lily offered here is relatively easy to grow. It requires a soil with alkaline reaction. In contrary to other lilies, it grows best in partial shade even though it tolerates full exposure to sunlight too. It prefers moist soils that are rich in organic matter. This wonderful border plant can be planted in spring or autumn. Place the bulbs in the soil at the depth equal thrice their height. Taking care of this lily is similar to taking care of other varieties of this species.

A single package contains 10 bulbs of the Henryi lily, sized 16/18. Essential plant growing tips and information can be found on the package label.
