The Merlot Rouge daylily (Hemerocallis hybrida) belongs to the earlier blooming varieties that display their large blossoms at the end of June already. These double, vividly coloured crimson red flowers will develop gradually until August. These plants develop thick rosettes of grassy leaves from which stiff flowering stalks emerge. This tall variety may reach up to 70 cm in height during the blooming period. For that reason it looks best grown in groupings on lawns or central parts of the borders, where you can combine it with other daylily varieties or ornamental grasses.

Daylily rhizomes are planted to the ground in spring or autumn, possibly on a sunny or partially shady site. The soil needs to be deeply cultivated, fertile, rich in humus and moderately moist. Daylilies bloom the most abundantly if you take care of the mineral-organic fertilizing. This plant is frost resistant and winters in the ground.
