Pink sweet alyssum (Lobularia maritima) belongs to one of most popular annual plants grown in rockeries. Often finds it its way to perennial flower beds to fill empty spaces left behind by the early withering spring flowers. This undemanding, low growing species sprawls, creating thickly leaved, light, pillow-like tufts. Full umbels of tiny, five-petal, light pink blooms appear on tops of the creeping stalks in June. The buds open subsequently in the summer and in early autumn until the first frosts.
Seeds of the pink sweet alison, as this plant is also called, are sown directly to the permanent sites in spring. Each type of garden soil can accomodate this species. Full sun exposure is essential for abundant blooming. The variety offered here, with candy sweet pink blooms harmonises with strong baby's breath with its mesh structure, as well as stonecrops, Bidens aurea, nemesias or looking glasses. Plants that grow on elevated sites - embankments, walls and rock gardens - look particularly enchanting, truly flowing down with waterfalls of blooms.
