The red morning glory (Ipomoea coccinea) is a popular creeping plant with twining, slender stalks that sprout ornamental, feathery leaves. Blood red, funnel-shaped blooms packed in bundles look like rubies in this fluffy, green bush from July till September. This undisputably beautiful plant full of exotic charm stands out with its strong growth. It easily reaches 2 m in length, tightly covering wire fences, pergolas and other supports.

The red morning glory, or redstar, as it is also called, can be grown with two methods. Either sown directly into ground in the second half of spring, or from seedlings, grown in hotbeds, green house or at home in early spring. The species offered here prefers light and humous soils. It develops both on sunny and partially shady sites. This plant will grow not only in the ground, but also in large pots. Therefore it works perfectly as a cover for not-so-pretty balcony railings.
