The Stardust stonecrop (Sedum spectabile) belongs to the most charming varieties of the stonecrop. This rather tall, vigorous, and dense perennial grows 50 centimetres tall and wide. It takes on a regular, semi-spherical shape. Stiff, erect shoots of this plant branch and shoot large, ornamental, ovate leaves. Stems and leaves take on a bright green, eye-pleasing, fresh colour. Stardust stonecrop retains its decorative features all year long as an evergreen plant. It looks most beautiful late in summer and early in autumn, though. Inflorescences in form of compact, large panicles appear atop its stems from August to October. They are densely packed with star-shaped, white flowers that have surprisingly long anthers. All this turns the panicles into fluffy clouds.

The charming Stardust stonecrop can be planted on borders, in perennial groups and in rock gardens. It is an undemanding, sturdy, and vigorous plant that handles drought and frost very well. We recommend planting it on sunny sites, in sandy-loam soil. It should thrive in a lesser soil too. White, fluffy flower clusters of the presented variety would look even more attractive combined with stonecrops and other Sedum plants that bloom in various shades of red and pink, e.g. Brilliant, Munstead Dark Red, Purple Emperor and Vera Jameson.
