Carline Thistle, Silver Thistle seeds - Carlina acaulis ssp. simplex
Carline Thistle, also known as Silver Thistle, is a perennial plant that grows up to 30 centimetres in height; it features an attractive rosette, which, in the summer, produces 15 centimetres broad whitish-silver inflorescences with a large centre. Carline Thistle, which is recognised as a fine decorative variety, is an excellent addition to rock gardens or dried flower arrangements.
Growing: sow the seeds in pots from May to June; sow 2 to 3 seeds in each pot (10 to 12 centimetres in diameter). The seeds germinate in 18 to 25 days at 18-22°C. Plant out into a permanent position in 30x40cm spacings in September. The plants require permeable humus calcareous soils in sunny positions.
