Tiger lily is a plant that develops fleshy, scaly bulbs and takes on an erect habit. Its straight stems are covered with elongated leaves carry goblet-shaped, single flowers that consist of outward bent petals. Long anthers protruding from flower centres give this plant an exotic flair. Numerous dots, freckles, and stripes adorn the petals and have allegedly given this plant group its name. Lily flowers gather atop the stems in loose clusters that consist of five to twenty flowers. Tiger lilies enjoy high standing among many gardeners and growers. Many consider them to the most beautiful flowering plants. Their versatility allows you to implement them both in mixed and perennial beds. Tiger lilies harmonize with many varieties of their species, especially when planted in larger groups. Tiger lilies fit into classic and modern gardens. Frame home entrances with them or grow them in planters on a terrace or balcony, where they can decorate places of relaxation. Tiger lilies can be arranged into bouquets and other floral decorations.

Any given tiger lily has low cultivation requirements, what makes it so popular in home gardens. Lush, fairly tall lilies love bright and sheltered places. A permeable, fertile, moderately moist soil offers those plants a head start and excellent development conditions at later stages. Neutral or slightly acidic reaction suits lily's scaly bulbs. Tiger lilies belong to winter-hardy plants that do not need to be excavated. We recommend though, covering tiger lily sites with dry mulch or conifer twigs during snowless or extremely frosty winters. Tiger lily, as species, rarely falls victim to diseases and pests, what makes its cultivation even easier.

Plant tiger lilies in spring or fall, 10 to 15 centimetres deep and 30 to 40 centimetres apart to ensure proper development conditions for relatively large tiger lily bulbs. Lilies can spend several years at the same site without excavating. They do not need special care. Watering and fertilizing, as well as removing wilted inflorescences is all they require.
