The huge, double flowers of the Antraciet tulip that consist of ruby red petals will fill the spring flower beds with the royal lavishness. The buds of this tulip variety are dark red, but turn crimson as the blooms unfold. The fully open flowers disclose a light yellow pistil and black stamens. These details add the last touch to the sophisticated beauty of the plant. Cut tulips will remain ornamental in vases until the last petal.

The variety offered here is valued particularly as the component of perennial borders, plantings on lawns and colourful flower beds. It can be forced, cultivated in pots and boxes and used as cut flower. These tulips grow 45 to 50 cm on average.

The tulips that bloom in April and May should be planted in autumn, starting in mid September. In order for the bulbs to develop well, they need plenty of sunlight, but they tolerate partial shade. Plant the bulbs about 12 cm deep and 12 to 15 cm apart. The tulips prefer moderately moist, fertile and medium compact soil that also needs to be permeable. The tulips are frost resistant, but need to be covered before the winter in order to prevent injuries. The conifer twigs and dried leaves are the best mulching material. We recommend to excavate tulip bulbs every year, though. The bulbs should be excavated, dried, cleaned and stored in a warm and dry place after the leaves have dried off (about 6 to 8 weeks after the flowers have wilted). Removing the ovaries that are left after the flowering is also recommended.
