The crimson-brown Labrador tulip produces blooms with frizzled petals that look as if they ended with tassels. The unique form and colour of the flowers win hearts of many fans. This is a perfect variety for all those that want to grow unique flowers in their gardens. Labrador is a relatively new variety and therefore is sought after by many collectors. This flowering rarity provides a marvellous, intensive eye catcher that will direct the attention on the most representative garden or plot spots. It will also quickly become an interesting accessory that will help you create the appropriate ambience in a room.

Tulips are rather undemanding in regard to growing conditions. These plants do not require much attention from the gardener. You only need to learn their basic requirements regarding the site in order to enjoy the beautiful flowers. Tulips grow best in the medium heavy to light soil. The loam-sandy soil should be permeable, rich in nutrients and the organic matter. It is recommended to avoid planting tulips in the waterlogged, acid, heavy or dried soil. Tulips prefer sunny sites, yet several hours of shade per day will not hurt them. We recommend to prepare the site for tulip cultivation in advance. The soil should be cultivated, weeded and the larger stones removed from it. The admixture of finely ground compost will provide the bulbs with the much needed support at the start. You may also add some sand in order to make the soil lighter. Tulips do not need to be excavated every year, but we recommend to do so every 3 to 4 years in order to strengthen the plants. This would also allow you to propagate the tulips by separating the bulblets. Tulips tolerate Central European winters and may grow at the same site for at least a few years.

Tulip bulbs have to be planted in autumn. September and October are considered the perfect time for planting. The optimal planting depth equals two heights of a bulb. The spacing between the individual plants depends on the effect that you would like to achieve. Allow 15 - 20 cm between the bulbs and the same distance between rows on average.
