The pink-purple "Amethyst" astilbe (Astilbe) stands out from its kin with stronger growth and larger size of the inflorescences. The variety offered here takes on the typical, bushy habit, typical for this species and grows up to 90 cm tall. The dense, fluffy, ear-shaped inflorescences that develop in the upper parts of the erect stems, reach up to 30 cm in length. They consist of tiny, vividly coloured, purple-pink flowers. The original, exceptionally vigorous "Amethyst" false spirea, as this plant is also called, blooms in June and July. After the flowers would have wilted, you may still admire its abundant foliage - its odd pinnate, denticulated leaves harmonise well with the openwork fern leaves and the smooth, entire hosta foliage.

Rhizomes of the "Amethyst" astilbe should be planted in spring on a sunny or shady site. The variety offered here in our store will grow quickly and harmoniously on every moist, slight acidic or acidic garden soil. Astilbe plants are frost-resistant, yet may require covering as precaution against late spring frosts, that could harm young shoots. It should bloom exuberantly and reliably on the same site for several years. As soon as you notice that its growth weakens, excavate and split the rhizomes in order for the plant to regain its vigour. Due to the bushy habit and large size of the fluffy inflorescences, the "Amethyst" astilbe may be planted alone as a feature or border background. We recommend to plant it in groupings or compositions with ferns, hostas, the pink "America", creamy-white "Brautschleier" or crimson-red "Burgundy Red" astilbe varieties in larger gardens.
