How to grow sprouting seeds

Growing alfalfa for sprouts is extremely simple, fast, and enjoyable. It takes just a few days for delicate, juicy shoots to grow from tiny seeds. Soak the seeds in boiled, lukewarm water for 6 to 8 hours to stimulate them to life. Next, spread them evenly in a sprouter or a jar covered with gauze. Remember to place the vessel in a bright spot that is not exposed to direct sunlight. The most important rule is regular rinsing, at least twice a day with fresh, cool water. After just 3 to 4 days, the sprouts are ready to eat, being firm, fresh, and full of flavour.

Cultivation

Alfalfa grows best at room temperature and in conditions of moderate humidity. Avoid standing water, as this may lead to the seeds becoming mouldy. After every rinse, gently tilt the vessel so that excess water can drain freely. When the sprouts reach a length of 3 to 5 cm, you can harvest them and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days while maintaining their freshness and crunchiness. You can grow alfalfa sprouts throughout the year, regardless of the weather, even in winter when access to fresh vegetables is limited.

Harvest time

Sprouts are ready for consumption 3 to 4 days after soaking the seeds. It is sufficient for them to reach a few centimetres in length. Cultivation is possible at any time of the year, from January to December. This allows you to enjoy fresh sprouts whenever you feel like it, regardless of the season or weather.

Usage

Alfalfa sprouts are not only a tasty but also a highly valuable addition to daily meals. They blend perfectly with vegetables, cottage cheese, hard cheeses, eggs, and main courses. They work exceptionally well in salads, smoothies, and on fresh bread. Thanks to a high content of vitamins A, C, K, and the B group, they support immunity, improve skin condition, and add energy. They are also a source of fibre, calcium, iron, and magnesium, which are essential ingredients in a balanced diet. Regular consumption of alfalfa sprouts helps cleanse the body and increases its natural immunity.
