"Bonus" broad bean (Vicia faba var. major) is a productive medium early variety that develops straight or only slightly bent pods, inside which 4-5 thick, pale green, evenly maturing seeds sit. These plants develop stiff, erect, thick and sparsely branched stalks on which the pods grow horizontally or vertically. Broad bean seeds contain plenty of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron and vitamin C, as well as B vitamins. Due to the high content of iron and folic acid it is particularly recommended to people suffering from anaemia. Large quantities of protein make broad beans a great alternative to meat and valuable source of proteins in vegetarian fare. "Bonus" broad bean is recommended for direct consumption after cooking. Sow "Bonus" broad bean seeds from beginning of March to April directly onto the field. Place 2 - 3 seeds per hole in 50 x 25 cm spacings. Broad beans should be harvested at the milk-ripe stage, when the pods and seeds are fully developed and the latter also have a distinct pale mark at the bottom. This usually occurs from June to August. Broad bean may be cultivated on sunny or partially shady sites and it yields richest harvest in heavy, clay, moist soils that are rich in humus. One package contains 50 g of "Bonus" broad bean seeds, as well as the sow-by date and a growing guide.
