The Caucasian stonecrop (Sedum spurium) is an attractive and easy to grow evergreen perennial that perfectly fits onto dry and sunny sites. The partially creeping growth form of the presented plant belongs to its main characteristics. The flowering stalks of the Caucasian stonecrop that end with prominent pink-crimson flowers tower over the densely leaved slender and trailing stems. Both the fluffy umbellate flower clusters and the fleshy thick bright green leaves present high ornamental value. The obovate crenate and pinnate leaves densely cover the stems. The trailing stems can take root and therefore the plant spreads beautifully, creating low, dense and abundant tufts. The variety offered here in our gardens store grows only 20 to 30 centimetres tall during the flowering period.
The root sets of the two-row stonecrop, as Sedum spurium is also called, should be planted outside in spring. These plants are resistant to frost and can therefore winter on the same site for many years. The plants do not have high soil requirements - they feel best on permeable soils and love the sunlight. They are resistant to strong wind, summer drought and changing weather. They do not require a fertile soil to spread attractively. The unique flowers of the Caucasian stonecrop attract butterflies, bees and other useful pollinating insects. The dark pink flowers can be adorned all summer long from June to September. The plants retain their ornamental value all year long thanks to their foliage. The perennial that we present here is perfectly suited for planting on large, empty spots in rock gardens. It will grow well on parapets, under south-facing walls and in the natural, well-lit, semi-wild corners of the garden.
One package contains 1 root set of the Caucasian stonecrop (Sedum spurium). The basic plant growing instructions were printed on the package.
