The Common Foxglove is a perennial plant which is generally cultivated as a biennial. Its main decorative element is the very long stems that are densely covered with bell-shaped flowers, which range from pink to purple, with violet blotches on the inside portion of the petals. The Common Foxglove grows up to 120 centimetres in height and is great for flower beds, flower compositions, and for a cut flower. This variety looks particualarly outstanding when grown in rockeries.
Growing: sow the seeds in a seedbed or under cover from May to June. The seeds germinate in 2 to 3 weeks at 18-20°C. Plant out into a permanent position in 30x40cm spacings from August to September. The plants flower from June to August in the following year. This variety requires fairly dry fertile permeable soils in sunny or semi-shaded positions.
