Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) is a perennial plant that is usually grown as a biennial in our climate conditions. The plant develops a rosette of oval-spike, large, hairy leaves in the first year of culture. The next year straight, erect, stiff and leaved stems grow from the rosette and reach up to 120 cm in height. They end with a one-sided, long grape of bell-shaped, large, hanging flowers that are white with attractive, contrasting speckles in the inside the calyx. Foxglove or lady's glove is a plant that fits naturalistic gardens well. It may be used in groupings and as background for other plants. It may be planted in shady garden corners in small groups with the turfing plants or in the parks. The foxglove can also be grown for cut flowers.
Seeds of the foxglove are sown in May - June directly onto the field in 30 x 40 cm spacings. In the year of sowing the plants will develop leaf rosettes that would winter in the ground. These plants prefer partially shady sites with a permeable, not too moist soil. The flowering stalks of the foxglove should be tied to the supports, because they may fall over in the heavy rain.
A package contains 0.2 g of white-flowered foxglove seeds, as well as the sow-by date and growing instructions.
