The red flowered, as the name aptly suggests, "Red King" crocosmia (Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora), sold here in 10-piece packs, belongs to the most beautiful late summer and autumn perennials. The plant also known as montbretia, grows 70 - 90 cm tall and forms a dense clump of erect, narrow leaves when grown in smaller groupings. Straight and long flowering stalks sprout from the foliage in the second half of summer. They appear in large numbers especially on sunny sites. Delicate, funnel-shaped flowers that appear atop the stems enchant with subtle form and vivid colours. Paired one over the other, intricate flower cups of the "Red King" crocosmia take on a fiery red colour. The long, yellow stamina add an exotic flair to the already stunning blooms.

Due to the branched, tuft habit and abundant blooming the crocosmia is an ideal perennial for growing on lawns, larger borders and groupings on border edges. It is also a great cut flower. This plant loves the sun, yet feels good on sites that remain in the shade for several hours a day or in vicinity of tall deciduous trees. The soil should be light, aerated, rich in humus and permeable. We recommend to excavate the bulbs before the winter and store in cool cellar. If you plant to leave them in the ground for the next season, do not forget to cover them tightly.
