The Snowbunting crocus has won a prestigious award. No wonder, when you consider its beauty. A patch covered with these tiny flowers is a sight that one does not forget. The flowers delight with the captivating white colour and the adorable smell.
This crocus does not belong to the tallest category, it grows max 10 cm tall. Its unmatched beauty makes up for the modest height. The corolla that consists of 6 tepals takes on a creamy-white colour. The outer petals are adorned at the base with a light brown dot from which thin stripes run towards the top. The inside of the flower shelters a yellow eye. The bulbs of this variety produce up to 5 compact flowers that are cup-shaped and the petals end with a blunt tip. The centrally positioned orange pistil and anthers add the last finishing touch.
These tiny flowers form a magnificent flower bed and border edging decoration. It looks particularly well in larger groupings. It is perfect for a rock or alpine garden. They fit exceptionally well into ornamental containers, large bowls, boxes and baskets. They propagate quickly, what proves to be of great essence when you naturalize the lawn.
Crocuses start to bloom in March and the flowers usually stay until the next month. In order to meet that date, crocus bulbs should be planted in September or October. This plant is rather undemanding. It only needs a soil that does not waterlog, supplies it with nutrients and sun or partial shade.
One package contains 100 pieces of the Snowbunting crocus bulbs sized 5 to 6 cm. The basic plant information and growing tips can be found on the product label.
