Bayou is a striking variety with intensely purple flowers whose neatly arranged petals catch the eye and bring elegance to any garden display. It flowers abundantly and over a long period, and its rich colour shows to good effect alongside varieties in lighter or warmer shades. Bayou is a dahlia with a calm, elegant character. It is well suited wherever a cooler accent is needed in summer planting schemes.
Dahlia tubers are planted in spring, once the risk of frost has passed - usually from late April to May - into warmed soil. Earlier cultivation can be started indoors, in pots placed in a bright position.
The tuber should be covered with a layer of soil about 7-10 cm thick. The buds should be positioned just below the surface of the growing medium.
Leave 30-50 cm between plants to give them room to grow.
This variety grows to 80-90 cm tall, producing sturdy, upright stems.
Flowers from July to October. Regular removal of faded blooms encourages the formation of new buds.
Dahlias do not overwinter in the ground. After the first frosts, the tubers should be lifted and stored in a dry, cool place until the following spring.
Dahlia 'Bayou' is excellent for borders, containers and as a cut flower for bouquets. Its intense purple colour adds distinctive character to any arrangement, both in the garden and in indoor displays. It can also serve as a striking accent in minimalist compositions with ornamental grasses.
Our tubers are carefully selected, which ensures their top quality.
