Dahlia 'Blue Wish' is a variety with fully double, spherical flowers in a cool colour palette. The petals have a pale base that fades into violet-blue tips. It flowers abundantly while keeping a very compact, tidy habit. Thanks to its two-tone colouring, it looks best planted in larger groups in a border, where it creates a uniform, striking accent.
Tubers should be planted in spring, from April to May, once the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed sufficiently. They can be started earlier in pots indoors.
Place the tuber under a layer of soil about 5-8 cm thick, so that the eyes sit just below the surface of the growing medium.
Allow 50-60 cm between plants to give them room to develop freely and ensure good air circulation.
The plant reaches 90-120 cm and forms a distinct vertical feature in a border planting.
The flowers appear in July and last until the first autumn chills.
Dahlia does not overwinter in the ground. After the first frosts, the tubers should be lifted, cleaned and stored in a dry, cool, airy place until spring.
This variety works well in the second row of borders and in combinations with plants with white or silvery leaves. It can provide a backdrop for lower perennials or create a uniform, cool-toned line along a fence. The flowers are also suitable for cutting, especially for arrangements in blue-violet tones.
