The Heatwave dahlia is a plant for those spots that you would like to expose. A carpet made of the bright red flowers immediately attracts attention of all onlookers. Heatwave dahlias look great on borders, in an ornamental planter, or as decoration of the home entrance. The variety that we present here belongs to ornamental dahlia group that is characterized by development of numerous, double flowers. These magnificent perennials produce charming flower heads from July until first frost. The perfectly shaped, almost identical flowers sit atop 50-centimetre-tall stems and seem to be produced on a factory line. Dahlias, sturdy cut flowers, supply great material for bouquets and other compositions.

We recommend preparing the site for dahlia planting earlier. A spot tilled 30 to 40 centimetres deep, weeded, cleaned of stones, and enriched with a fermented compost will be perfect for planting dahlia rootstocks. Put the rootstocks into the sufficiently large holes and cover them with a 5 to 10 centimetre thick layer of soil. The distance between the plants depends on the expected size of the plant. Keep plants of this variety 50 centimetres apart. Bushy dahlias should be fed and watered all season long. Their stems, heavy with flowers, might require staking. Cut off wilted flowers to extend the flowering period and make it even richer.

Dahlia rootstock does not tolerate frost and must be excavated before the winter. Clean and dry them slightly and store in a room where temperature would not fall below the freezing point. Store dahlia tubers in boxes filled with sawdust or peat.
