Staking might still be needed in some cases. Dahlia requires neutral or slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients, permeable, and constantly moist. Plant the tuberous rootstock 5 to 10 centimetres deep, between April and July. It is highly recommended to wait with the planting until mid-May to avoid late frost. Dahlia plants require watering and feeding with fertilizers, as well topping of the wilted flowers. Dahlia rootstock must be excavated in autumn and stored in temperature above freezing point until the next planting in spring.
