The Impression Famoso dahlia is an unpretentious plant that produces numerous anemone-shaped flowers. Their lovely pink colour harmonizes with small, narrow parts of the corolla. The centre of the flower is filled with a golden yellow heart that attracts bees to collect pollen. This low-growing, only 50 to 80 centimetres tall dahlia, looks great on flower beds, borders, in the middle of a lawn, or in a pot on your balcony. Delighting with its charm and pleasant colours, presented dahlia fits many compositions, not only in the garden. Dahlia flowers can be formed into colourful summer bouquets, in any given style, from noble to rustic.
Plante dahlia at sunny places that are sheltered from the wind. This species needs sunlight to bloom profusely, while the shelter protects fragile shoots from getting damaged. You can plant dahlia in the ground only after the last spring frost, from April to June. Keep dahlia tubers 20 to 50 centimetres apart. Dahlias grow well in sandy loam, fertile, and permeable soil. They require watering during periods of persistent drought, fertilization, and removal of faded flower heads throughout the season.
As befits a native Mexican, dahlia loves the sun and warmth. It is sensitive to cold, therefore its cultivation is possible only at the height of the vegetation season. After the first autumn frost, cut dahlia stems 10 to 20 centimetres above the ground, and dig up carrot-resembling tubers. Transfer them to a room when they can dry. Remove the remnants of the soil and put tubers in boxes, stored in a dry room where temperature remains several degrees Celsius above the water freezing point. We recommend to cover tubers with layers of peat or sawdust to protect them from drying out. You can plant them again in the garden in the second half of May. Forcing in pots in warm, bright rooms can start as soon as mid-March.
Each package contains one first choice dahlia seedling of the Impression Famoso variety. Look for basic plant facts and growing tips on the package label.
