The Islander dahlia is a wonderful ornamental variety. Its magnificent, broad pink petals with a creamy yellow or apricot spot at the base are waved at the edges. This magnificent pattern guarantees high ornamental value of the plant. The undeniably charming Islander dahlia looks great both planted on its own and in larger groups. It does not take the garden stage for itself and therefore harmonizes well with other flowers. It looks spectacular in company of hollyhock and phlox. Combining it with mangold or broadly spreading kale brings excellent results. The tall growing dahlias are the solution for growing colourful, flowering hedges and rows. Dahlias are perfect flowers for vases where they retain fresh looks for a long time.

Dahlia belongs to vigorously growing plants. It does not require much care to be enjoyed in the garden to the fullest extent. It grows well in sunny situations and in partial shade. Characteristic dahlia rootstocks grow healthy in permeable, light soil that contains plenty of nutrients. This soil should always be moist, yet never flooded. It is worth preparing the site for dahlia culture already in autumn. The place should be properly tilled and fed with fermented compost or decomposed manure. You can enrich the soil with a complex mineral fertilizer with a low nitrogen content right before planting dahlia in spring.

Dahlia rootstock that consists of tuberous roots should be planed mid-May. Forcing dahlia in pots is a good solution for the impatient gardeners. Plants grown that way may bloom up to three weeks earlier than those grown the standard way. Planting holes should be thrice as deep and broad as the rootstock itself. Dahlia is extremely sensitive to cold weather. You must cover the already planted developing dahlias in case frost is forecasted. Newspapers, fleece, cardboard, or natural jute fabric are the best materials for that purpose.

Each package contains 1 piece of first class rootstock of the Islander dahlia. Basic plant growing instructions can be found on the package.
