The Penhill Watermelon dahlia surprises with its numerous flowers that consist of rolled salmon-pink petals. Double flowers of this charming plant can reach an unthinkable size of a dinner plate. The 100 to 120 centimetres tall plants that develop strong stems and lush green foliage constitute a splendid garden and planter decoration. Its fleshy flowers unfold in large numbers from July to end of October. The Penhill Watermelon dahlia will win hearts of many garden owners. You can also enjoy the beauty of its flowers in pots that adorn home interiors.

Permeable and fertile soils suit dahlia the most. Make sure to regularly water and fertilize lesser soils. You can feed the soil with compost or a slow-release multicomponent fertilizer right before planting. Avoid nitrate fertilizers that ensure abundant growth of the tufts but would not stimulate plants to produce flowers. You should remove wilted flowers to stimulate dahlias to more abundant and long lasting blooming. Tuberous roots of dahlia are sensitive to low temperatures. They must be taken out of the soil before the winter in Central European climate. Dig out the rootstocks after the first frost that usually kills the overground parts of the plant. Cut the frozen stems right above the ground and then carefully excavate tubers. Roughly cleaned and dried dahlia tubers should be stored in a dry, ventilated room that is well protected from frost. Storing dahlia rootstock in baskets or airy boxes, layered with peat or sawdust, proves to be most convenient. Plant the rootstock again after the last frost in spring.

Each package contains 10 first choice dahlia rootstocks of the Penhill Watermelon variety. Basic growing instructions and key plant facts were printed on the packaging label.
