The Poodle Skirt anemone-flowered dahlia is a relatively young variety that has quickly gained popularity. Its unique flowers are small but come in myriads. They consist of two different layers of ray florets. First, the broader pink petals emerge from a bud. The second layer consists of short, dentate, Bordeaux-red petals. Presented variety is a perfect plant if you look for species that adds character to garden arrangements. Dahlia, who flowers from July to first frost, perfectly complements flower beds and borders. This variety grows 80 to 100 centimetres tall.
Dahlia will adorn your garden for years to come if you dig out its frost sensitive rootstock after the end of each season. Roughly cleaned and dried dahlia tubers should be stored in a dry, ventilated room that is well protected from frost. Storing dahlia rootstock in baskets or airy boxes, layered with peat or sawdust, proves to be most convenient. Plant the rootstock again after the last frost in spring.
You need a permeable, fertile, constantly, yet moderately moist soil with a high humus content to grow beautiful dahlias. Take care of regular fertilizing and watering at sites where the soils are of lesser quality. You can feed the soil with compost or a slow-release multicomponent fertilizer right before planting. Avoid nitrate fertilizers that ensure abundant growth of the tufts but would not stimulate plants to produce flowers. To stimulate dahlia bushes to abundant and long lasting blooming, it is recommended to remove wilted flowers so the plant would not lose strength on producing seeds.
Each package contains 1 first choice piece of rootstock of the Poodle Skirt dahlia. Basic plant growing instructions can be found on the package.
