Didiscus ‘Blue Lace’ is a very appealing perennial plant which, in temperate climates, is frequently cultivated as an annual plant. It grows up to 60 centimetres in height and produces lovely umbellate inflorescences which are filled with light-blue flowers that appear at the end of its shoots. The name ‘Didiscus’ comes from a Greek word and means ‘Dual disks’ – indeed, the flowers are flat and the inflorescences have a characteristic shape of a disc. Didiscus ‘Blue Lace’ looks outstanding when grown in flower beds, particularly in larger clusters. Additionally, thanks to its rigid shoots, this unique variety can be used as a cut flower.
Growing: sow the seeds from March to April in pots with a diameter of 8 to 9 centimetres; sow 2 to 3 seeds in each pot. Alternatively, you can sow the seeds directly into the soil in rows in 30cm spacings from late April to early May. Plant out into a covered permanent position in 30x30cm spacings in May; grow the plants in warm and sunny positions. This variety is sensitive to overly moist soils.
